Conceived as part of a literary game among friends in 1816, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is today regarded as a classic piece of 19th century literature. The story begins with the journey of an adventurer, Robert Walton, who saves the life of a man at the North Pole. That man, Victor Frankenstein, tells Walton about his experiments with the creation of life and how he ended up at the North Pole. The shipper seemed to carelessly package the book without nearly adequate protection, and the result was that the book came damaged. It was a gift to someone so I didn’t have time to send it back to get replaced. Plus, it is a real hassle and a cost to have to send things back. I wonder why I paid so much for S&H fees, when the postage and packaging was so cheaply done. I would not use that shipper again.

As an English teacher, I’m always looking for means to show my students different ways to look at literature. My main intent to order this one was because it maintained the original text…which it does. Other than that it doesn’t do much special. I’ve found some other graphic novel for other works that made some bold statements with THE IMAGES; this one doesn’t…the graphics are pretty straight forward and concretely consistent. The most unique thing I can show with this one is how it pares down an entire chapter to one spread in the book. The artwork is nice, but doesn’t leap off the page; and when it does leap of the page, it is a bit comical.

I am studying “Frankenstein” in a college Eng 1B class and our final paper is based on the book worth 30% of our grade. The importance of the material makes me want to reread the book but as I’m in a time crunch I cannot. I ordered this book and it has all the characters, no absences of scenes or absent plot points so this is great for the analytical approach I’m taking. We have to explicate the paper and I can use this book to pinpoint the pages in the book and find the quotes I will use. Plus this book has some extra small essays in the back that are of use in my thesis and outline. I would say this book also has the best artwork and translation of the three I bought from Amazon. This is a valuable addition to my studies and I recommend it to any person that needs a condensed version of the story. You can just look through the pages quickly and find the section from the pictures instead of reading anything. A great read for serious critical thinkers.
