A Bit About Wonder Woman

Of course, you know that Wonder Woman is a fictional superhero appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. But you may not know that psychiatrist Dr. William Moulton Marston, the creator of WW, considered Wonder Woman to be psychological propaganda for the new type of woman who should, he believed, rule the world.

Diana Prince is this superhero’s secret identity.

Although Wonder Woman flies an invisible plane, she is also capable of unassisted flight by gliding on air currents. Wonder Woman is almost, if not as strong, as Superman and able to physically outmatch other beings such as Supergirl.

Other attributes: In the rare instance when Wonder Woman is harmed, her body heals from any injury instantly without scarring. She also displays Divine Wisdom – as granted by Athena (Goddess of Wisdom), which gives her a degree of understanding beyond that of most humans and provides her a strong moral sense. On occasion, Wonder Woman can literally leave the planet through meditation.

A princess of the Amazons, Wonder Woman is one of Earth’s most powerful defenders of peace and equality and a member of the Justice League. Batman once remarked that Wonder Woman is the best hand-to-hand fighter in the world. The Flash has said that Wonder Woman can easily keep up with him and she has been seen keeping up with Flash going faster than hypersonic speed.

Wonder Woman has appeared in a wide variety of media outside of comic books since her debut appearance (1941) including newspaper comic strips, film, television and video games.

“Wonder Woman,” a new superhero movie featuring the DC Comics character Wonder Woman, will soon be distributed by Warner Bros. It is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2017, in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D.

And remember, Wonder Woman may be fictional, but what she stands for – truth, love, peace, and only righteous application of power when all else fails – isn’t.

The Secret History of Wonder Woman

A cultural history of Wonder Woman traces the character’s creation and enduring popularity, drawing on interviews and archival research to reveal the pivotal role of feminism in shaping her seven-decade story. By the Pulitzer Prize-finalist author of New York Burning.

This is a riveting work of historical detection revealing that the origin of one of the world’s most iconic superheroes hides within it a fascinating family story—and a crucial history of twentieth-century feminism Wonder Woman, created in 1941, is the most popular female superhero of all time. Aside from Superman and Batman, no superhero has lasted as long or commanded so vast and wildly passionate a following.

Like every other superhero, Wonder Woman has a secret identity. Unlike every other superhero, she has also has a secret history. Harvard historian and New Yorker staff writer Jill Lepore has uncovered an astonishing trove of documents, including the never-before-seen private papers of William Moulton Marston, Wonder Woman’s creator.

Beginning in his undergraduate years at Harvard, Marston was influenced by early suffragists and feminists, starting with Emmeline Pankhurst, who was banned from speaking on campus in 1911, when Marston was a freshman. In the 1920s, Marston and his wife, Sadie Elizabeth Holloway, brought into their home Olive Byrne, the niece of Margaret Sanger, one of the most influential feminists of the twentieth century. The Marston family story is a tale of drama, intrigue, and irony. In the 1930s, Marston and Byrne wrote a regular column for Family Circle celebrating conventional family life, even as they themselves pursued lives of extraordinary nonconformity. Marston, internationally known as an expert on truth —he invented the lie detector test— lived a life of secrets, only to spill them on the pages of Wonder Woman.

The Secret History of Wonder Woman is a tour de force of intellectual and cultural history. Wonder Woman, Lepore argues, is the missing link in the history of the struggle for women’s rights—a chain of events that begins with the women’s suffrage campaigns of the early 1900s and ends with the troubled place of feminism a century later.

This colorful art of the trio of superheroes is no doubt inspired by the current movie: “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016),” but over the years of comic history, Batman and Superman have often been the best of friends. They would go off together and fight villainy for years in the comic book title: “World’s Finest.” But what if Batman thought Superman was a dangerous threat to the Earth and Superman thought Batman was deadly vigilante? You might get, first, a very interesting graphic novel and then a very interesting movie. And is not just the fight between the two men, a little bit more spice is added in when a beautiful Amazon, Wonder Woman, gets tossed into the situation.
