Australian Art

While I am certain that Lily McDonnell is real and her art is real… In March 2006, the ABC reported art fraud had hit the Western Australian Aboriginal Art movements. Allegations were made of sweatshop-like conditions, fake works by English backpackers, overpricing and artists posing for photographs for artwork that was not theirs. Aborigine art like any “native” art is too often subject to manipulation and knock-offs.

It is in the cards, more of McDonnell’s artwork…

· Rock painting. Rock paintings are said to be one of the oldest form of arts dating back 30,000 – 40,000 years ago. It was in 1891 when Joseph Bradshaw discovered the first known rock paintings in the caves of Kimberly, Western Australia. These rock paintings were called “Gwion Gwion” and were created by Australian aboriginals in the area. Gwion Gwion is now more known as “Bradshaw”, named after its discoverer.

Fantasy Girls

Remember when? Farrah Fawcett was the pin-up icon of the 70s. Farrah was the envy of many a young woman and the fantasy of every young man. Des;pire her countless episodes as a Charlie’s Angel, you could not get enough of herc. This pin-up girl was the fantasy girl for a generation.

I prefer super heroines from the future, but… Any sexy costumes can transform your boring everyday existence into an exciting adventure fantasy. Transform yourself with a french maid costume into a sexy insatiable temptress or a secretarial costume into an innocent virgin….

Fantasy art saw an explosion in popularity in the twentieth century as photography made more traditional depictions, in some sense, obsolete. Where other movements began focusing on alternative ways of depicting images such as expressionism, cubism, and abstraction, fantasy artists would depict images that had a traditional aesthetic, but an impossible representation. They are similar to surrealist artists in this sense. Plus they used a lot of sexy girls in their art!

Art History Lesson: In the 1500s, Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch can be viewed as one of the most prominent fantasy artists in history. He is famous for his triptych “The Garden of Earthly Delights.” The first panel shows Adam and Eve in paradise, the second a world full of earthly delights, and the third hell, filled with various types of sinners. There is some debate over whether his artwork was intended to represent orthodox religious views, to satirize the church, or merely to amuse.
