This post features another work of Gil Elvgren – an artist who started out by creating illustrations for calendars and advertisements, then turned to creating pinup art. Of course, he was also an accomplished portrait painter. And this skill appears in this pinup art which shows a beautiful woman, at the bottom of a set of stairs, holding a lamp and a gun. A noise has disturbed her and what made the noise? Her cat!

Known as a humorous artist, at times, this pinup illustrates Elvgren’s sense of humor.

Alone, she carried with her       the inherited revolver, her father’s passing gift –       said to be one of Doc Holliday’s guns – her       great grandfather played poker in Tombstone and Colorado       in the old days       (and often won). Here is the beautiful silent film actress Clara Bow nude leaning against a wall while holding a musical instrument. The vintage naked female image was taken by photographer Alfred Cheney Johnston. Johnston is best known for taking photo portraits of Ziegfeld Follies showgirls.

Clara Bow is often referred to as the “It Girl,” a term popularized by the 1927 film “It,” which starred the beautiful actress. Bow is one of the earliest and most iconic sex symbols in movie history.

A great actress and movie star, the sexy Clara Bow’s movie career lasted well into the talkies, though she retired in the early 1930’s due to health reasons. Her vivacious and energetic on-screen presence, made her a favorite among audiences, which is why her movies are still enjoyed today.
