Robert Crumb Disappointed with Fritz the Cat Movie

Robert Crumb Character – Fritz the Cat

Why did Robert Crumb object so strenuously to the “Fritz the Cat” movie? It appears that the animated version of his comic character – the portrayal of Fritz the Cat – insulted him. But did Robert Crumb have specific reasons?

Ralph Bakshi, the director of the movie completely changed the approach to the film and Robert Crumb lost out in having any final artistic control.

According to Crumb, “But when it came to vision and content, [Bakshi] simply did not have any original ideas. And as soon as he ran away from my original story, Bakshi’s film fell apart. Ultimately, he was only one of these media jockeys, making money in the hippie culture, without actually being a part of it.”

Besides Bob received a pittance ($5000) for the use of his character. After the film aired, Crumb was so dismayed. he then decided to kill off Fritz.

In my opinion, the film was not that bad, but it could have been much better. Still any representation of Robert Crumb’s artwork has a value and the Fritz the Cat movie is worth seeing. Wouldn’t it be nice, if a Mr. Natural movie could be made either animated or live action… Now who should play Mr. Natural or Flaky Foont?

Fritz The Cat is an interesting film, an experiment in free flowing ideas in animated form. I'm not sure if it is good, but like you I do not believe the film is concerned with being good or impressing those who take the time to watch

Original Pin-up Art For Sale
Jan 6th, 2010 by Aldouspi

One of the reasons this website exists is because there is so much good pin-up and related art out there, that I want to see and want to share. Art is meant to be shared and beautiful art and exciting art can make a difference in our daily lives.

It is always nice to get a piece of original art. I do not have a lot of original art (except my own), but those pieces I have been lucky to pick up are always a gift when I look at them – be it a beautiful geisha pin-up, an abstract landscape, a harem of duck-like women, a photo of Captain Kirk or a drawing of Omaha Cat Dancer.

It is also important to support artists when you can, who often sell their work below their true value. So if a piece of original artwork, be it a pin-up or whatever, strikes your fancy – buy it, if you can. You are giving yourself a lifelong gift and helping out an artist to share their vision with the world.

There are many great deals for original pin-up art here to get your art collection going.
