Comments on the Superheroine Batgirl
Batgirl is the name of several fictional superheroes appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, depicted as female counterparts to the superhero Batman. My favorite Batgirl is Barbara Gordon the daughter/niece of Police Commissioner James Gordon.
Batgirl is considered to be one of the most popular character to have emerged during the Silver Age of Comic Books. And because she does not pursue a romantic interest in Batman, “Batgirl is a female, Batman can actually regard as a brilliant peer and a partner in the war on crime, the same way he would a male.”
Barbara as Batgirl acts alongside Batman, Nightwing, and a new Robin as they patrol the streets of Gotham.
In her original adventures during the Silver Age of Comics, Batgirl is depicted as a librarian by day, and a spirited crime-fighter by night. Batgirl is a tech genius and an amazing detective. Her advanced deduction skills makes Batgirl a natural-born detective, who loves solving complex problems and finding the clues that others may have missed.
Like many female characters in Silver Age comics, story lines featuring Batgirl often presented her as less than an equal to her male superhero counterparts. And how about a TV show of Batgirl that could be DC’s dark equivalent to Supergirl?
Overall, Batgirl has officially been represented by four different characters – and two claimants – beginning with her introduction in 1961.
