There might be some who find the art in this post a bit controversial. With privacy issues, stalking issues and women’s rights as understood in 2023, I don’t think Gil Elvgren would have created the pin-up art below, today. A beautiful woman is seen through a keyhole in the act of undressing – she is pulling a red dress over her head. Of course, this kind of “cheesecake” art was quite acceptable in the late 1940’s and 1950’s. I had to debate with myself if I should make this example of pinup art available… Ultimately I decided that censorship is rarely a good idea and that I should trust the intelligence of the viewer of this art to understand it in historical context as well as being able to enjoy the elements of fantasy and beauty the art projects.
