The Girl, The Gun and The Cat
Aug 22nd, 2024 by Aldouspi

“I don’t like a lot of color, and I don’t like a lot of clutter. I like things to be simple and direct.” – Gil Elvgren.

This post features another work of Gil Elvgren – an artist who started out by creating illustrations for calendars and advertisements, then turned to creating pinup art. Of course, he was also an accomplished portrait painter. And this skill appears in this pinup art which shows a beautiful woman, at the bottom of a set of stairs, holding a lamp and a gun. A noise has disturbed her and what made the noise? Her cat!

Known as a humorous artist, at times, this pinup illustrates Elvgren’s sense of humor.

A reproduction of this image of this beautiful woman on the stairs is available as an 8.5 x 11 inch photo print. It is for sale at my store on eBay (without the watermark). The Cat, the Girl and the Gun

Alone in the house,
she and the cat, Puff –
her sister’s cat,
      a sister a statistic of
one of the many ways
      people die,
      too soon.

She and the cat
      had mourned together
forging
      their own bond.

Alone, too,
      because her spouse
was away – serving the country,
      perhaps, saving the world.

Then the bang?? broke
      her light slumber –
not the creaking of the old house’s
      wooden structure settling
      in its own sleep,
or the thunder from the storm
      outside,
this sound was inside –
      a disturbing noise
that needed investigation.

Alone, she carried with her
      the inherited revolver,
her father’s passing gift –
      said to be one of
Doc Holliday’s guns – her
      great grandfather played
poker in Tombstone and Colorado
      in the old days
      (and often won).

Down the stairs she crept
      ready for anything –
only to find relief
      when she would discover
the mystery was but a case
      of the cat, Puff,
knocking off a vase
      from top a cabinet.

Beautiful Woman on Roof by Gil Elvgren – Beautiful Pinup Art

There was a time when to watch shows on your television set you had to have an antenna on your house’s roof. And to get the perfect picture you needed to adjust the antenna – moving it right or left – to pick up the best broadcast signal. In the lovely Gil Elvgren pin-up art below, a beautiful woman is sitting on the edge of a roof adjusting the TV aerial and and showing a bit of leg at the same time. This is a classic example of the sexy “cheesecake” art of the late 1940’s and 1950’s.

This image of a pretty woman up on the rooftop, her leg curled around the pole of a television antenna, is available as an 8.5 x 11 inch photo print. It is for sale at my store on eBay (without the watermark). You can learn more about purchasing a photo print of this “Woman up on the Roof” by clicking on the picture. Or click on the link below the art to be taken to this eBay item.

Beautiful Woman Shows Legs While Fixing TV Antenna by Gil Elvgren Pinup

Woman on the Roof

The pinups of the past
were women
who got things done –
INDEPENDENT
from their hubbies off at work.

Beautiful, but handy, too
you might find her up on the roof
adjusting a TV antenna,
when needed,
to make sure she could watch
“The World Turns”
without static on
the television screen.

And if neighbors got a look
at her lovely legs
when she was working
so diligently up there….
Well, they should just mind
their own business –
and look away!
