About Cameos

Intricately carved cameos have been produced since ancient times. Cameos are carvings of images in relief against a contrasting background. Read on for the history of cameos and buying cameo jewelry online.

We still love cameos, really: The Victorian Era saw a re-birth to the fashion of wearing cameos, and with it, wire wrap sculpture. The two went hand in hand, flourishing for a number of years as artists created signature pieces that were handed down from generation to generation, before the art form faded into obscurity.

Cameo Glass: Cameo glass is a luxury form of glass art produced by etching and carving through fused layers of differently colored glass to produce designs, usually with white opaque glass figures and motifs on a dark-colored background. The technique is first seen in ancient Illyrian art of about 30BC, where it was an alternative to the luxury engraved gem vessels in cameo style that used naturally layered semi-precious gemstones such as onyx and agate. Glass allowed consistent and predictable colored layers, even for round objects.

Artistically the most notable modern work occurred during a the revival in the Art Nouveau period, by makers such as Émile Gallé and Daum of Nancy, when Roman-inspired subjects and color schemes were totally abandoned, and plant and flower designs predominated. Cameo glass maker Louis Comfort Tiffany also made a small number of cameo pieces, which were a French specialty in this period, though other firms such as the Czech Moser Glass were producers, too.

Not your Grandmother's Cameo – Shrink Plastic Jewelry « The Tamara

Jewelry findings/chain/pin back. A quick side note on shrink plastic: The translucent stuff is pretty easy to find in craft stores. But if you want to be SUPER thrifty, you can use #6 plastic, which is found in salad bar or to-go containers . It's sometimes hard to find pieces big enough that are flat to do this project with, but give a whirl, Up-cyclers! First punch or cut out your scalloped circle. This will be the base of your cameo.

There's also this one, which has the cameo pin up on the choker. But lacey collars aren't a very every-day accessory – so I've had an idea… For two looks in one, I've decided the most efficient thing to do would be to

Your Questions About Pin Up Hairstyles
Aug 2nd, 2011 by Aldouspi

Nancy asks…

Easy to do pin up/scene hairstyles?

My hair is below my shoulders, but my hair is thinned (thick hair though) and has layers.
I need new ideas for the summer, and especially one to do within the next two hours.
I like the classy pinup style, but I also would LOVE to find an updo to wear.
I’ve google image searched “scene hair updo” and even looked through the image results, but didn’t find what I wanted…

Pin-up answers:

Scene and Pin up is completely different from each other, but personally, Pin up is very much more classier than Scene, So go to youtube and look up Lisafreemontstreet…She has tons of tutorials on Vintage hair, and Updos.

Mary asks…

Need some hairstyles, pinned up, down, etc., but something I can achieve myself?

I’m quite creative, I’m going to a wedding party on Sat & I need a hairstyle, my hairs the length of my chest, so I can do anything with it + I have extensions, what hair do’s can I do? Thanks…

Pin-up answers:

You could put in your extensions, the way you normally would. And then do a french twist, it is when you put in a low ponytail by your neck towards your left, but don’t tie it up or anything just hold it there without a ponytail, and twist it upwards going over the ponytail and to the right. Then about 2 inches above the base of the ponytail, or in the center of your head and pin it with a whole bunch of bobby pins, and curl the hanging hair with a small curling iron. You can put in a flower clip where all of the bobby pins are to make it cute, but match it with your outfit. 😀 hope i helped.

If you need more a descriptive article, just search how to do a french twist on youtube or google 😀

Donna asks…

Quick and easy retro/pin-up hairstyle?

How can I do a quick and easy retro/pinup hairstyle? I usually shower and blow dry my hair at night then straighten it in the morning, but I wanted to try something different that won’t take 2 hours. Something that’ll stay all day during school and wont take more than 20 minutes. Thanks (:

Pin-up answers:

Hey hon!
Try some of these hairstyles!

Hope I helped!

Helen asks…

I have a round face, but really LOVE the whole pin-up hairstyle…?

You know, the blunt bangs Betty Page look… but will that look terrible on a round face?
I know people with circular faces shouldn’t have blunt bangs because it will only make my face appear rounder than it already is… any help? Anyone who has hair experience is a plus, or just someone who knows what they are talking about!
Thanks!

Pin-up answers:

If you like the pin-up style go for for it! If you want to make your face look less round (sorry, I don’t know how to word that), highlight your cheek bones, chin, and forehead. This will make your face look longer and more feminine appearing. Hope this kinda helped!

Ruth asks…

do you like of pin up hair flowers clips? (burlesque style)?

Burlesque has became again a big trend. I have noticed this with pin-up hairstyles and I think they’re very pretty, especially if they add a flower clip with this kind of hairstyle.
Do you like it? Would you ever buy/wear it? If yes what color/kind of flower? On which occasion? Could you even describe your look/ style in one word?

I add some link as example:
