The new pin-up fad of the U.S. is the series of advertisements shown on these pages, which are put out by Oneida, Ltd. in Oneida, New York, manufacturers of Community silver. Titled “Back Home For Keeps,” they depict the breathless meeting of a young wife and her returned serviceman-husband at the moment of his homecoming. With them goes wishful advertising copy that manages to remind the reader that Community is not making silver now, but will when he gets home. Oneida, Ltd. expected that its illustrations would become popular among impatient wives, was ready with 50,000 reprints. But it was totally unprepared for the amazing response. “Back Home For Keeps” has been plastered on the walls of girls’ colleges , in high schools, even the barracks of those servicemen who have wearied of the anatomical pin-up. The artist is Jon Whitcomb, who drew the first of series, went into the Navy and was replaced by artist who signs his work Michael.
