Deserves a place on every palette. A gorgeous forest green that is almost black in mass tone, it has great transparency, makes smooth, clean washes and lifts surprisingly well for a staining color. Made with a blend of three pigments, it joins our Daniel Smith family of impressively strong dark greens such as Jadeite Genuine and Perylene Green. Mix it with Pyrrol Orange to make a stellar redwood brown and Rhodonite Genuine for an interesting neutral blend.

    Possible faulty tube – does not meet Daniel Smith standards, April 20, 2013

    I have purchased 3 tubes of Daniel Smith colors: Burnt Umber, Prussian Blue, and Cerulean Blue. I have tried Daniel Smith for the first time after using M. Graham, Old Holland, Sennelier, and WN watercolors. The first two paints (B. Umber and Prussian Blue) are excellent — they rewet quickly and well, paint smoothly and have a nice rich hue. However, my Cerulean Blue is very disappointing. It rewets poorly; once wet it produces uneven chunks of color, and is hard to pick from the well with even the best brush. I suspect that this might have been an old tube that was at the warehouse for a while, or may be there is not enough Gum Arabic, I do not know.

    In general, I liked Daniel Smith better than any colors I used before (except M.Graham), but this Cerulean Blue tube feels that it does not belong there. Considering the cost, it is disappointing as it is virtually unusable. I would recommend the other two colors though.
