Did not enjoy these books – will stick with books written under Carolyn Keene.

I loved the classic Nancy Drew books when I was a little kid and I love these graphic novels even more. Nancy has a new modern look and style to solving her mysteries. While she still hangs with her classic best friend George, her male friend has taken a back seat to a more minor roll and replaced by another girl name Bess. What more Nancy now has herself a nemesis rival whose dad is a private investigator whose daughter wants him to solve the cases before Nancy. Each story is in this set in unique with a quality that draws me in and hang on every page. The first book re-introduces the new Nancy Drew in both new and old audiences alike as she try to prove their no monster in the wood while working of a school film project. Include Bess mostly taking Ned place as a mystery solver. Second book Writ in Stone is my least favorite as a marker makes it seems like Chinese were in America years before Columbus. The third is my favorite if the set. The Haunted Doll house has the town doing a historical week. I’m notice sure if Nancy Drew originally came out in 1930s as the characters are play acting or 1950s but its interesting seeing Nancy and friends in period clothing, cars and stuff that would be a big hit for the older Nancy Drew fans especially. The case as the name implies trying to find the connection between a antique doll house and a series of real crimes. The final book in the box set The Girl who wasn’t there is my second favorite on the set. With her regular friends away Nancy becomes phone pen pals with a girl in India. When She calls Nancy one night in trouble and that call is interrupted Nancy, Bess and George rush to India to find nobody heard of the girl. They soon find themselves neck deep in a ancient cult who plan to make Nancy a human sacrifice.

As a collector of all things Nancy Drew, I love these books. They are graphic novels featuring the titan-haired detective and the other familiar characters from the Nancy Drew novels. The stories are new and modern, with a anime twist to them. There’s a bit more supernatural flavor to these. I am not generally a fan of graphic novels, so I can’t comment on their quality from that perspective, but I think they are an entertaining and unusual format of story for lovers of Nancy Drew.
