Bits and Pieces about Gift Wrap

Gift wrapping refers to the act of enclosing a gift in some sort of material. Wrapping paper is a kind of paper designed for gift wrapping. Gifts may also be wrapped in a box. They may be held closed with ribbon and topped with a decorative bow (an ornamental knot made of ribbon).

Gift wrap is an often overlooked aspect of holiday presents. Most gifts are bundled in hastily purchased, generic gift wrap or stuffed into oh so familiar recycled gift bags.

Creative ideas for gift wrapping do not have to be complex, expensive, or time consuming. As a matter of fact, an elegantly clean present with a simple initial can be very personal and creative. If you find yourself with a ton of gifts to give this year, this might be the best route. You can cut the first letter of the recipient’s first name out of scrapbook paper, thick wrapping paper, foam, and many other materials. You could later decorate it with items such as glitter or feathers afterwards as well!

If you do happen to tear, scuff, crease or mark your paper then a self adhesive bow is your best friend. These shiny little adornments both hide problems and add an extra special touch to your gifts. Even if your parcel has been perfectly wrapped, a metallic ribbon and bow can give it that extra wow factor so whatever your level of gift wrapping proficiency, these little touches are a worthwhile investment.

My favorite creative idea for gift wrapping money is to put it inside of a candy box. This is awesome if you catch a sweet tooth, as you can save the box for the next holiday. You can leave the wrappers inside of the box, and place a single bill in each wrapper. Try folding the bills into small squares first, with the amount showing as it is in the picture.

If you’ve wondered if gift wrap is recyclable, unfortunately its not. A lot of the glossy coating that festive wraps have, along with the ribbons and bows, makes recycling them impossible. Even if just a little is included with recyclable paper, it could make the entire load doomed to never be used again. So unless you plan on folding it up and using it next year, just get a trash bag and fill ‘er up.
