Tomi After Bath Hashiguchi

Tomi After the Bath

Tomi is fresh from her bath –
        this is her private time,
when she can be alone,
        and hear the quiet.

She delves into the world
        inside, and listens,
for the sweet voice
        of the divine spark –
her true self.

The sound of violins
        or guitars
bubbles up
        and washes clean
her thoughts.

For a moment her mind
        is unfilled
and she understands
        without words.

Then she is back
        smiling, ready,
to serve others
        in the world.

Japanese Woman Tomi After Bath by Goyo Hashiguchi

Woman After Bath by Goyo Hashiguchi

About this painting: “Woman after Bath” was created by Goyo Hashiguchi in 1920. This woodblock print captured a moment of quiet intimacy as a woman wraps herself in a towel after bathing. The composition is characterized by its serene atmosphere and delicate detailing, showcasing Hashiguchi’s skill in capturing the subtleties of human form and expression. The print is renowned for its exquisite beauty and has become one of Hashiguchi’s most admired works, reflecting the artist’s mastery of the ukiyo-e tradition and his ability to imbue his subjects with a sense of timeless elegance and grace. Art note: Tomi is the name of the artist’s model for this work.

Goyo or Goyō Hashiguchi was a Japanese painter who lived from 1880 to 1921. A prominent figure in the early 20th-century Japanese art scene, his contributions to the Shin-hanga [new woodcut (block) prints] movement, was an attempt to revitalize traditional Japanese woodblock printing techniques.

Hashiguchi’s often depicted scenes of everyday life in Japan, including landscapes, portraits, and images of women – both dressed traditionally and nude. His style was a blend of traditional Japanese aesthetics combined with modern influences. The results was artwork that were both visually stunning and culturally significant.

Despite his relatively short life, Goyo Hashiguchi left a lasting legacy in the world of Japanese art. His works continue to be celebrated for their beauty, craftsmanship, and cultural significance, influencing generations of artists both in Japan and beyond.

Nude Woman Bather in Reeds and Stream
Feb 14th, 2023 by Aldouspi

Here is an intriguing piece of fine art painting by Félix Vallotton. Vallotton, a Swiss/French painter and print maker, did all kinds of artwork – woodcuts, drawings and paintings. This last area of work includes a fascinating series of different nude women. I am happy to show one such example below of a woman sitting while she baths in a pebbled filled stream. Behind in black is a background of reeds. The color scheme of yellow and orange is a departure from the more realistic tones Vallotton normally used.

This image of a lovely nude woman using a stream to bath in, is available as an 8.5 x 11 inch photo print. It is for sale at my store on eBay (without the watermark). You can learn more about purchasing a photo print titled “Woman Bather” by clicking on the picture. Or click on the link below the art to be taken to this eBay item.
